Needle stuck above zero when parked
A needle that remains at a speed reading with the ignition off often suggests a gauge motor or pointer-position problem. The gauge may not complete its normal return movement, or its internal reference position may have been lost.
Some vehicles perform a needle sweep or self-test at startup. If the speedometer needle fails that test while other gauges work normally, it is a useful indication that the gauge mechanism requires specialist attention.
Needle moves but gives the wrong speed
A consistently inaccurate speedometer can have different causes.
